Malcolm Butler

New England Patriots Cornerback

Malcolm Butler is a 5’11” cornerback for the New England Patriots.  He went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, but was picked up by the Patriots following his senior year of college.  Born on March 2, 1990 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Butler attended Vicksburg High School before going on to Hinds Community College, from where he would later transfer to the University of West Alabama

Despite only playing football his freshman and senior years of high school, Butler earned an athletic scholarship to Hinds Community College.  His freshman year was difficult, as he transferred from Hinds to Alcorn State University, and then back to Hinds.  Butler was a standout player his sophomore year, which allowed him the opportunity to move up to Division II football at the University of West Alabama, where he majored in Physical Education.  At West Alabama, Butler was again a star player, and was named an All American his senior year.

As a rookie for the New England Patriots in the 2014 season, Butler appeared in eleven games, had one start, recorded fifteen tackles and three passes defended.  He is most known for his contributions in Super Bowl XLIX, where he made several key plays down the stretch to help the Patriots overcome a ten-point deficit in the fourth quarter.  The most notable of these came with twenty-eight seconds remaining, when Butler made an interception on the one-yard line to save the game and ensure victory for the Patriots.

Butler enjoys being active in the community.  After winning the Super Bowl, rather than running off to warm weather, Butler paid a visit to the Boston Children’s Hospital where he spent the afternoon putting smiles on the faces of countless children.  He is known as a humble class act that is always looking to evoke hope, faith, perseverance and commitment in those around him.
