Mike Bossy

New York Islanders Hockey Hall of Fame

A true Hall of Famer, Mike Bossy is known as the ultimate New York Islander for playing his entire ten-year career on Long Island.  Drafted 15th overall in the 1977 draft by the Islanders, Bossy was immediately recognized as a scoring powerhouse throughout the league and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year in 1978. 

 Bossy went on to have 9 consecutive seasons with 50+ goals and 90+ points.  During that time, he also won 4 consecutive Stanley Cups starting in 1980. He still ranks second only behind Mario Lemieux in all-time career goals per game average.  In 752 games played, he scored 573 goals with 553 assists for a total of 1126 points.  As the consummate sportsman and winner of three Lady Byng Memorial Trophies for Sportsmanship, Mike has always been an outspoken advocate of banning fighting in hockey.

Since being elected into the Hockey Hall of the Fame in 1991, Bossy has embraced the challenge of a second career in business.  Currently, he is a spokesperson for the “Safe and Fun Hockey” kids program sponsored by General Motors, and is a spokesperson for WorldCom.  He is also the Director of Public Relations for Humpty Dumpty potato chips, based in Montreal, Canada.  Currently, Bossy resides in Rosmere, Quebec with his wife Lucie and two daughters.
