Former NBA/ABA Basketball Player and Coach

M. L. Carr (Michael Leon Carr) is an American former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and American Basketball Association (ABA), and former head coach and General Manager of the Boston Celtics.  Carr was signed as a free agent by the rebuilding Boston Celtics in 1979.  The Carr acquisition was one of four major additions which immediately propelled the Celtics back to the top of the NBA standings.  Carr was named to the All-Defensive NBA Second Team in 1979 and won two titles with the Celtics in 1981 and 1984.  In 1994 Carr became the General Manager of the Celtics.  Carr was offered and assumed the position of head coach for the 1995-1997 seasons.
