Matt Grzelcyk

Boston Bruins

As a Charlestown, Massachusetts native, Matt Grzelcyk attended Belmont Hill School before joining the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.  Grzelcyk spent two seasons with Team USA and won a gold medal at the 2012 U18 World Juniors in the Czech Republic.  Shortly thereafter, he committed to Boston University to pursue his hockey career with the Terriers. Grzelcyk served as a captain at BU his junior and senior years, playing 125 games, scoring 26 goals, and assisting on 69 during his four-year career.  Matt was twice named to the NCAA East First All-American Team in 2015 and 2016.  In 2012, he was drafted by his hometown Bruins in the third round (No. 85) of the NHL draft.

On April 1, 2016, Grzelcyk signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Boston Bruins and spent six (6) weeks of the 2016 season playing with the Providence Bruins.  Grzelcyk made his NHL debut on December 14, 2016 at TD Garden in front of friends and family.  His debut was a surreal moment as Matt grew up going to the Bruins home ice arena with his father, who has been a member of the teams Bull Gang for over 50 years.  He scored his first NHL goal in 2017 in a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.  After helping the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup final in 2019, he set NHL career highs in goals (4), assists (17), points (21), and games played (68).  Grzelcyk, now playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins, is known for his smartness, and incredible puck-moving abilities.  Off the ice, Grzelcyk enjoys playing golf and being involved in the New England community.
