Matt Light
Former Offensive Tackle
Most people cannot forget Matt Light’s iconic lumberjack beard, grown for every playoff. While there are numerous pictures of that lighthearted man on the sidelines, Light was no joke on the football field during his 11 season career in the NFL. Light was born June 23, 1978, in Greenville, Ohio, and attended Purdue University. There, he established a name for himself as an offensive tackle. Matt was drafted out of college in the 2nd round by the New England Patriots in 2001, and then began what would be a stored football career, complete with 5 Super Bowl appearances, 3 Super Bowl championships, and 3 trips to the Pro Bowl. Matt’s reputation for leadership, in the locker room as a captain, on the field, and in the League was widely known.
Giving back has always been a primary pillar in Light’s philosophy to help kids succeed in life. Matt’s tremendous efforts both on and off the field make him an incredible mentor to children and those that look up to him. In 2001 during Matt’s rookie year, he and his wife, Susie, established the Light Foundation, a non-profit organization that strives to instill a sense of responsibility, accountability and hard work in at-risk children by teaching them life skills through unique outdoor learning experiences.
In May of 2012, Light retired from the NFL and found himself in front of the camera as an analyst at ESPN, for which he still contributes content from time to time. Nowadays, Matt spends time running his various business ventures, including the launch of KEEL Vodka, and working to grow the Light Foundation so that it can reach more kids who need the help.
In addition to Matt’s athletic achievements, he has also received a number of high-profile awards for his charity work and was recently inducted into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame 2018 class. When he’s not working, he enjoys family time with his wife Susie, daughters Grace and Anna, and sons Collin and William.
