Caitlin Mara
Caitlin Mara is a 5’10 defender at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A Winchester, Massachusetts native, Mara attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, a private day school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. During her time at Buckingham Brown & Nichols, she finished her preparatory school career with a record of 63-1-2 and was undefeated from October 2019 through November 2023. Mara was a two-time captain and helped lead BB&N to three NEPSAC Class A titles. While at Buckingham Browne & Nichols, she co-founded the school’s club A Shot for Life Soccer to raise money for cancer research.
In her first season playing for the UNC Tar Heels, she played in nine out of the 18 regular season matches, averaging 36 minutes per game. She helped lead her team to a 14-4 regular season record. Mara played the full 90 minutes in the last regular season match of the season against Duke University on October 31, 2024.
Outside of soccer, Mara is the daughter of Liz and Rob Mara and the niece of Paul Mara, who was drafted No. 7 overall in the first round of the 1997 NHL Draft and went on to play in the NHL for 12 seasons, totaling 734 games. Mara was three younger sisters.
