Connor Wong
Boston Red Sox Catcher
Connor Wong is a professional baseball catcher and infielder for the Boston Red Sox. Wong grew up in Houston, Texas and is the step son of the former Milwaukee Brewer, Matt Maysey.
Before the Major League, Wong attended the University of Houston after not being selected in the 2014 MLB Draft. During his time with the Cougars, Wong broke the American Championship record with six RBIs in a single game and tied the Houston Freshman Record with six home runs. Wong was selected as a part of the American Athletic Conference First Team as a utility player. In his junior year, Wong became the first Cougar since 2008 to notch 10+ home runs and 20+ stolen bases in a single season and was later named a Second Team All-Conference honoree.
After his collegiate career, Wong was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third-round pick of the 2017 MLB draft. He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Dodgers before being promoted to the Great Lakes Loons where he played over 28 games for the season
On February 10th, 2020, Wong was traded to the Boston Red Sox but unfortunately the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was invited to participate in the Red Sox’ fall instructional league and later was added to the 40-man roster.
After the expansion of MLB active rosters in 2022, Wong was recalled to Boston. On September 2nd, he hit his first major-league home run against the Texas Rangers. That season Wong made 27 appearances for Boston, batting .188 with one home run and seven RBIs.
