Leon Powe
Former Professional Basketball Player
Leon Powe is a former professional basketball forward from Oakland, Califrornia. Powe played collegiate basketball at University of California, Berkeley where he led the conference in rebounds and was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. The Denver Nuggets selected Powe in the second round of the 2006 draft and he was quickly traded to the Boston Celtics where he signed a three year contract. A part of the 2008 Championship Celtics team, his gritty, leave-it-all-on-the-court style of play made him a fan favorite in the city. Powe also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Memphis Grizzlies, and played for a short time in Puerto Rico before announcing his retirement from basketball in 2014.
After his retirement, Powe was hired by the Boston Celtics as a Community Ambassador. He now is a speaker all around New England hoping to pass along life lessons to aspiring young basketball players.
